You CAN use a Standard Switching Power Supply in
place of an original Dragon's Lair / Space Ace
Power Supply. The trick is that you have to make your own connector to connect the New Power Supply to the Game's Power Connection with some minor modifications.

The best thing about this modification is that when it is done you can still use your Original
Power Supply or your New Switching Power Supply.

Here is a list of the Original Power Supply Inputs
and Outputs:

Connector #1

1. Field Ground
2. 110 - 120 AC Hot
3. 110 - 120 AC Return
4. 6.3 AC Return
5. 6.3 AC Hot
6. +25 DC Return (DC Ground)
7. +25 DC Hot
8. -25 DC Hot *Not Used
9. +5 DC Hot
10. +5 DC Hot
11. +5 DC Return (DC Ground)
12. -25 DC Return *Not Used

Connector #2

1. AC Hot
2. AC Return
3. AC Hot
4. AC Return

Connector #3

*Dose not exist

Here is a list of the New Switching Power Supply Inputs and Outputs:

Connector #1

1. Field Ground
2. 110 - 120 AC Hot
3. 110 - 120 AC Return
4. +5 DC Return (DC Ground)
5. +5 DC Hot
6. Not Used
7. Not Used
8. Not used
9. +5 DC Hot
10. +5 DC Hot
11. +5 DC Return (DC Ground)
12. Not Used

Connector #2

1. AC Hot
2. AC Return
3. AC Hot
4. AC Return

Connector #3

1. +12 DC

* Note: You have to make this single wire
connector for your +12 DC line that will
have to be connected from the New
Switching Power Supply and connect
it dirrectly to your Game's CPU.

Also, If you have a Switching Power Supply
that has a -5 DC Output, It is Not Used.

You need to make a connector that will plug in to the Power Connector of the Game. This connector has to then be connected to the New Switching Power Supply. This way you will be able to connect
an Original Power Supply without any trouble.

Basicly you are Replacing the 6.3 AC Hot and Return with a +5 DC Hot and Return.

This is used only for the Coin Door Lights.

* Note: You Will Not need to change out the Coin Door Lights. +5 DC can be used with these lights.
They might look slightly dimmer.

You are not using the +25 DC and -25 DC lines.

You need to make a single connector that is connected to your +12 DC from your new power supply and wire this line to another connector
that rests beside the Main CPU Connector that connects to the Main CPU Board. Then you make an
another connector that connects to the +12 DC Connector. The This line has to be soldered to
the Main CPU at R42 (Resistor 42)**The Hot Side**
NOT THE GROUND SIDE!!! It is the side nearest to
Section G3 on the CPU. This is used for the sound.

The CPU uses +25 DC from the Original Power Supply
and then down grades it to a +14 DC to +15 DC. Then uses this to power the sound. By connecting an unregulated +12 DC at the point that the +14 to
+15 DC goes, you can use this in it's place.
The +12 is more than anough power to be used in place of the +14 DC to +15 DC. It Dosen't even draw in 1/4 of an Amp. by using a +12 DC for the power of the sound.

You will need to make a connector that connects wires to the connctor #2 which connects the
your Fans. Connect the two AC HOT Wires to the AC Hot of your New Power Supply and do the same to the AC Return wires.

Minimum Output that the New Switching Power Supply should have:

+5 DC 7Amps.
+12 DC 1 Amp.

It is alot to digest. It also seems like a lot of work, But well worth it. I did this to both of my Dragon's and Space Ace. I am very happy with it.
